Hurricane Eta is making a direct turn and will hit me head on.

Eta has restrengthened into a hurricane this morning. It will be a very impactful storm and is making a straight B line to my location in florida. They are talking about the possibility of it spawning tornadoes..I dont know what it is going to do and how much damage it will cause even if it is not the Cat 4/5 it once was. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it.

What i don't quite understand, however, is that despite such volatile weather phenomena building houses out of essentially wood and drywall is (as far as I am ware) still quite common in the US. Why is that?

Not really, considering that they need to be rebuilt time and time again after having been blown away - literally. A nice example of "Those who buy cheaply do buy twice"

Hah, it weakened dramatically before it ever struck me, a bit of gusty winds and rains from a then 60mph tropical storm that didnt really do anything at all. Wind shear tore the storm apart and cooler waters limited how stong it coulda got.
