Yeah yeah, call it overrated if you must. I'm well aware BG3 only works in Wizards/Hasbro's current state because Larian saved it.

So I admit I never got to truly experience the series. I got one chance to play the first Baldur's Gate eons ago, never actually got around to getting out of the first area (my D&D game of choice was Neverwinter Nights), and really have not had a whole lot of chance since then despite several games of the series sitting on my hard drive for years.

It's time I did something about that.

I'm actually planning to deal with BG3 first. Two playthroughs of this, then I go back and deal with the earlier games. I'm more used to 5e rules than 2e, so that's why BG3 first - as the transition to 2e rules is going to be extremely awkward for me.

Why two playthroughs of BG3? That would be because of the Dark Urge. I've had one of the big twists spoiled to me but I won't mention it just yet.

Current plan is that my standard playthrough is with a dragonborn bard (there's a whole gimmick with this one), and my Urge playthrough is with a human warlock. The only other thing I know is to make sure to have Speak with Animals available as often as possible.

.....and to stay the fuck away from Halsin, whoever he is.

Anyone have any particular comments or advice regarding the series?

Despite having a PS5, I still have not gotten Baldur's Gate 3, because honestly, turn-based combat (outside of something like Pokémon) is kind of a turn off for me, but that said, I have massive fucking nostalgia for the first Dark Alliance, which I used to have on GameCube growing up. God, the memories of playing that game in the 00s as a kid, I'll never forget it, that's for sure. The music, the characters, the atmosphere of it all, that game was cool as hell and so different from most of the other games I played growing up that usually involved robots, or racing/stealing cars. I've never played D&D in my life, though, but I love the hell out of that game. Come to think of it, I should maybe look into getting it for PS2 one of these days, considering I do use one of those daily...
