So... I've had a bunch of sticks of incense stored away for a while, and also have a wax melter that hasn't been used in a while. It's time to pare some of this down... but I seem to be the only one in my family who puts up with this stuff.

So now that it's not winter here (meaning I can air the place out if I overdo it without freezing everything), here I am trying to use up some of this incense.

I've got about eight types right now, including lavender (great), frankincense & myrrh (maybe I've been holding these sticks too long cause I don't notice the smell of this), and... ugh.... patchouli. No, seriously, patchouli's just awful compared to other incense, at least for me.

Anyone else bother with this incense or wax melt stuff? If so, can anyone give recommendations?

I love scented wax! I tend to go towards season (cinnamon/spice Christmas, pumpkin fall, ect) but also love the warm baking foods (cookies, pies, ect). I always love a vanilla and lilac.

I have an absolutely gigantic box of incense sticks at home. I've also never bothered to pay enough attention to how they smell to differentiate them.
Funny smoke smells nice, makes me happy.

My boyfriend is big on wax melts and incense, but I'm a big candle guy. It's also interesting how different our scent preferences are. His room always smells like a bakery, especially around the holidays, and mine always smells like a crisp evergreen hiking trail

If you like spicy or citrusy scents, I recommend bergamot and palo santo incense. If you like sweet scents, try floral or bakery-themed wax melts

Add white sage to the list of incenses I can't stand, and both amber-sandal and dragon's blood to the list of good ones.

As wax melts go? Dragon's blood is always a good fit there (it's like that's one of the better scents in general), but the most intriguing one I had was pumpkin cream marshmallow - definitely a really good scent. (Makes me wonder why the place I bought it from discontinued it as I got a few packs of those at clearance prices.)

Ooof, haven't touched this thread in a while.

So... ordered a new set of incenses. Among standard smells like cinnamon and vanilla, I have a few oddly named ones (from the HEM company) - Open Roads and Call Client.

....I don't expect the latter one to do either.

Unfortunately, it was a random pack and in addition to getting another 8-piece set of white sage, I happened to get an 8-piece set of cannabis incense. I'm scared to even touch the thing - though I do know precisely when I'm burning it (I have a weeklong staycation coming up, that's when I'm using that one and praying the smell doesn't perma-linger on my clothes).

Wax melts? Vanilla cupcake is another good one, but the apple cinnamon one I got was way too weak a smell. Going to be ordering another set of wax melts soon.

My ultimate goal is to test a variety and find three or four incenses and three or four wax melts I can stick with long-term. Lavender's kind of taken a spot for incense and dragon's blood has one for wax melts so far...

Take it from a stoner: if you want to get any kind of pot, alcohol, cigarette, or any other clingy smell out of your clothes, soak them in baking soda and water for 5-10 minutes and lightly agitate it before washing. Gets the smell right out. You can also add vinegar to your wash cycle, but be careful how much you use, lest you'll smell like you just took an apple cider vinegar shot

......say, what's the shelf life of incense?

Because among the ones I have, I have "jasmine" and "African violet" incense that I swear I've had lying around for over a decade. I lit up the jasmine incense and... it seems incredibly weak.
