Okay, yeah, I already got distracted from my gaming goals.
Let me sum up what this game is: You're a scout (or a team of scouts) whose plane crashed on a procedurally-generated mountain, and your goal is to reach the peak and light a flare to signal for rescue. A new mountain is generated every day.
Progression goes: Shore -> Roots or Tropics -> Alpine or Mesa -> Caldera -> Kiln -> Peak.
I've only put in a few hours, and I can say that if a day shows up with Roots as the second biome then I might as well not even try. Roots biome is way, way harder than Tropics from my experience - 4-5 attempts at Roots and I couldn't even get more elevation, whereas my first attempt at Tropics let me clear it (only for me to fail hard at my first attempt at Alpine).
.....and I can tell you right now, no point to me playing on Tenderfoot. I might as well do the proper difficulty scaling. If I can scale the mountain one time alone, I'll be happy - I get the feeling that even trying the harder ascents will require a group (and this game is designed around groups anyhow), and I may start looking for groups at that point.
I have gotten into the habit of taking the flare from the crashed plane every time, as while I'm told there's a crate of them at the Peak, I'm also told that's no longer true at a later Ascent.
