Y'know how much I hate it when I find out about a certain animal's dedicated celebration a day after it has passed? Well, just post all the ones you know already or have recently discovered here, so I, or you, don't ever forget 'em! :D

I'll start:

March 20th - World Frog Day
April 27th - Hyena Day
May 8th - World Donkey Day
June 14th - National Skunk Day

Some more that I just remembered off the top of my head!

January 16th - Dragon Appreciation Day
Last Wednesday of May (29th) - World Otter Day
Third Saturday of September (21st) - International Red Panda Day
October 1st - International Raccoon Appreciation Day

See how neat this looks?

Okay, maybe not (yet)! But as more days are posted, each month or so I'll integrate them into this calendar of sorts, and who knows, one day make an actual downloadable calendar :P

National Bunny Day is celebrated on the fourth Saturday of September to recognize and honor rabbits for their unique characteristics. In 2024, National Bunny Day will be on September 28

Ooh what a lovely idea Spilo :D!

International Dog Day is on the 26th of August ^w^

It's more of a nice to know thing, but another lovely day is the 2nd day of Tihar known as Kukur Tihar. In Nepal people go around feeding stray dogs and decorating their own, spoiling them with yummy food in the process! Dogs are considered to be the messengers of Yama, the god of death, and are thus honoured.

Also really adorable.

23rd of November is Wolfenoot for wolves and all canids. It is described like this:

It is when the Spirit of the Wolf brings and hides small gifts around the house for everyone. People who have, have had, or are kind to dogs get better gifts than anyone else.

You eat roast meat (because wolves eat meat) and cake decorated like a full moon.

That's so sweet! Doggos are such kind souls. I really feel like they're sometimes too good for us humans...

I mean no I'm not a human I'm a doggo! Bark Bark!

Ooh btw we cannot forget the International Bat Appreciation Day on the 17th of April! :3

But yeah, what's up with dogs and Death Lords or death itself? I've always wondered

Looks at Hades and Cerberus, dogs and Mictlantecuhtli, Anubis, Xolotl, etc., etc...

Oh... :3

That is a good question Spilo :o I never thought about that.

I wonder if they're scavenging nature has anything to do with it. I've read before that Crows are linked to War gods, possibly because they're ever present at battlefields, eating the dead. Maybe it has some similar reason behind it.
