The 2026 Resolutions Thread!

I resolve to be the best kitty I can be healthwise, to take time fully for myself without worry about others in order to truly relax and destress, and for my mental and spiritual health...not to put up with any unnecessary BS whenever possible from "those close to me". This year through sheer will, things will be the best ever...

Uh oh. I haven't come up with mine yet! My resolution last New Year's was to be able to touch my toes by the end of the year. I'm.....not even close. I prefer to take things in little steps as I go rather than set big deadlines for myself.

Alright, I'll reveal mine at this point.

I've got five main resolutions:
  1. CLEAR SOME GAMES
    • So for a long time, I've left a lot of games unfinished. It's high time I finish more of them. I'll be making a thread for this somewhere in one of the Media subforums.
  2. SOLVE THE HEALTH MYSTERY
    • I need to determine, once and for all, if what I have is straight-up celiac disease or just a gluten sensitivity. If it is celiac, I need to find out how badly my gut is damaged and what nutrients I have trouble with. Weight loss is actually bundled into this one as gluten also makes me hungry enough to eat a whale.
  3. SAVE FOR HOME OWNERSHIP
    • My student loans are done. It's time to work towards fully having my own space.
  4. PROGRESS TOWARDS LINUX
    • With all that's surrounded Windows 11 and knowing that there's been major strides in the last five years on making games work on Linux, it's time for me to seriously consider switching operating systems. Windows user for 30+ years, and I see no need to add the types of features Microsoft insists on putting into the OS.
  5. MORE SOCIAL INTERACTION
    • With my head clearer after firmly discovering food issues, and having a major albatross off my neck... if I can't find good social gatherings around here for someone with my nerdier interests, then I'll have to resort to VRChat. If I can find some in-person ones, even better.

Now is a great time to switch. I was stuck on Windows 10 and 11 for five years, but the Linux ecosystem has gotten so good that I was finally able to switch over to NixOS a couple weeks ago without a hitch. The last hurdle was finding a suitable Photoshop alternative, and that became Affinity. Everything is so much better here; I don't think I can ever use Windows again. My system shell doesn't freeze up and hard crash the whole system when I open a network drive, and I can close and open apps and lock and unlock my computer instantly, rather than it taking ten or more seconds. It's also impossible to break or bloat my installation. NixOS is the only distro I'll ever use, but Fedora KDE is a great option if you want a Windows-like experience.

- Improve my miniature painting further. I want to improve my blending for smooth transitions from one colour to another.

- Neaten up the house some

- Clear up the garden

- Decorate my game room more.
